Advice to Future Students

What advice would I give future college students, is be prepared. As a new college student myself I would say that I under estimated the challenge.  In my eyes it seemed like it was going to be like high school, boy was I mistaken. I would also tell them to give themselves plenty of time for homework. I t might not seem like a lot but it adds up really quick. Some more advice I would give them is to double check their schedule, make sure you give yourself enough time in between classes. This campus is big and chances are you are not going to have your classes’ right next to each other. Also make sure the schedule is not conflicting with your home life, whether it may be your family or your job. I think these were all challenging to me because I did not prepare for them and it was hard to adjust my home schedule to my school schedule.  It was hard for me to adjust to this, but thankfully I got some help from my family. With them I arranged a schedule that allowed me to stay in school. I was sure to not make that same mistake again the following semester. If I encounter a future student I would tell them to not stress out and if they need help the school has a lot of resources to help them.

How Has English 101 Influenced Me!

What I believe will stick to me after I leave English 101 is Ethos, Pathos, and Logos most of all. I find myself pointing these things out when I’m watching television or when I’m having a conversation with someone. Most of the time I’m having a conversation with someone they don’t have a clue of what I’m talking about, unless it’s Abel because we’ve had all the same English classes. Another interesting thing that I think I will remember is how to write an argumentative essay. I believe I can really express myself in these kinds of essays and this makes it fun for me as well. Another thing I believe I will also remember is the counterargument part of the essay. Sometimes I start with this to get a sense of what direction I’m going to take my essay in. I know for sure two more things that will both stick to me and influence me in my future writing. One is the development of my thesis statement and how to make it clear. The other is my topic sentences and how to develop them to ease them out of and into the following paragraphs. These are the things I think I will remember from English 101.

Things I Like to Read

What do I like to read? If anyone were to ask me that I would say “I don’t have time to read” without giving it another thought, but the truth is I do like to read. Though I don’t really have time to sit down and read a book, I do enjoy reading my local newspaper, Yuma Sun, http://www.yumasun.com/. When I read the paper I feel like this is my connection to my community. I stay updated on community events that I can take my kids to, or to see what street the city is going to be working on the coming week. One big reason I read the newspaper is to see what kind of weather we will having in the upcoming week. I think it funny how it’s almost December and we are still able to go outside in short and a t- shirt. These are some of the reasons I like to read the newspaper.

Some of the other things I like to read are magazines. I mean what girl doesn’t right? This is my little get away in a way. I like to read people this is my favorite magazine to read; in my opinion it’s the most accurate in all the latest gossip, or as my husband says the one that lies the least. Cosmo, Lucky, Allure, US and Phoenix are some of the other things I like to read when I have time; it’s also relaxing to me to read these things.

The latest article I’ve read was one talking about Black Friday. It was saying that here in Yuma black Friday went off without any incidents. Store managers were very happy with the turn out and even more ecstatic that there were no problems. The article said that the authorities were around to lend a helping hand but really weren’t needed. The only things that had to be dealt with were customers shoving due to overcrowding, but that’s about it. To tell the truth, I was expecting to read something more interesting like people getting arrested or fights breaking out in stores, but I guess that’s good that those things didn’t happen.

Me, Myself, & I

Hello Fellow bloggers, my name is Paulette. I am a Yuma resident and have been here all my life. Given that last statement, I STILL can't get used to the horrible heat we have here on the sunniest place on earth. I am currently attending Arizona Western College and I am planning on go into the Nursing program. So, besides going to school full time, I also have a great family. I have 3 kids who are a HAND FULL, a wonderful hardworking husband and I just became the new owner of a new Rottweiler puppy whom I named Max. On my free time I like to do what every girl loves to do, go shopping!! I also enjoy reading my magazines’ to see what's new, who's in rehab this week and who's out. The E channel is another good way to keep up with all the latest gossip, F.Y.I. Some of the other thing I like to do is play with my little ones and watch them grow, and fight, and laugh and everything else they do. I also like to watch the sun set, I think we have the most beautiful view of the sun setting in back of the mountains we have, and as the sun sets I like to watch the stars come out. This is what I like to do even though my husband thinks it's a bit on the weird side. Well this is a little background on me; hope to hear from you guys soon.
